The new director tried to calm some of the concerns among the FBI agents after the Department of Justice last month demanded a list of the thousands of agents that helped investigations derived from January 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol of the United States and suggested that even those who just followed orders could be fired, the sources said.
There were also concerns about Patel’s recent announcement that up to 1,500 employees at the FBI headquarters in Washington, DC, would be reallocated to field offices and an FBI office in Huntsville, Alabama. And the controversial email of the Office of Personnel Management last week demanding that all federal employees list what they had achieved during the previous week or the confrontation termination only joined the concerns within the FBI, the sources said.
