Russia Ballistic Missile Strike kills dozens in Sumy de Ukrania, authorities say

London – A Russian ballistic missile strike in the city of the Northeast of Sumy, the city of Sumy, killed at least 31 people on Sunday morning, emergency services said, since many celebrated Ramos Sunday.

“The enemy hit the civilian population again,” wrote interim mayor Artem Kobzar in Telegram. The Ukrainian state emergency service said that at least 31 people, including two children, were confirmed murdered, with another 84 wounds. Two missiles hit the city center, authorities said.

Sumy City Council said the strike reached multiple buildings, including residentials. “On this brilliant day of Palm Sunday, our community suffered a terrible tragedy,” Kobzar wrote.

Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian presidential office, said the missiles used cluster ammunition, which sprayed smaller submunitions on the target area. “An ammunition missile in cluster is something that the Russians do to kill as many civilians as possible,” Yermak wrote on Telegram. “The strike in the city of Sumy is a deliberate bombing of civilians.”

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Telegram that the “terrible attack” hit “an ordinary city, ordinary life: houses, educational institutions, street cars.”

“And this is on a day when people go to church: Ramos Sunday, the party of the entrance of the Lord to Jerusalem,” he added. “Only scoundrel can act like this. Taking the life of common people. My condolences to family and friends. Now a rescue operation is underway. All the necessary services are working.”

“A difficult reaction in the world is needed,” Zelenskyy wrote. “The United States, Europe, all in the world who want the end of this war and murders. Russia wants exactly this type of terror and are dragging this war. Without pressure on the aggressor, peace is impossible.”

“The conversations have never stopped ballistic missiles and air bombs,” Zelenskyy said. “We need the type of attitude towards Russia that a terrorist deserves.”
